Overview
The Jewish Leadership Conference (JLC) was founded in 2017 to confront the major challenges facing the Jewish people in America, Israel, and around the world. The conference is sponsored by Tikvah, and it convenes intellectual and civic leaders committed to the flourishing of Jewish, American, and Western civilization in the current age. Every year, we award our highest honor—the Herzl Prize—in recognition of a Jewish leader whose contributions advance our most cherished ideals.
When designing this logo, I used the Hebrew letter “A” (which is called “aleph”) not only because it represents strength and power, but because it has other connotations of leadership, excellence, and accessibility. Since the annual conference is held in New York City, I paired the aleph with a flame to symbolize the torch of The Statue of Liberty (fire is also a major symbol in Judaism).
For the colors, I used various shades of blue to convey diversity and to represent the national colors of Israel. The serif typeface was selected because it gives it a distinguished and scholarly impression. I chose to use a gradient in the mark to imply change and unification.
